How to Choose What to Watch – Asha’s Super Tips

This year, my goal is to watch 120 movies or 10 movies a month, which, depending on your watch history, might not be a lot, but I only watched 40 movies last year(yikes!). So far, I’ve been accomplishing my goal and have watched 50 movies as of the date of writing (5/25/25), but my biggest roadblock in this challenge is figuring out exactly what to watch! So hopefully, with these tips, you too can accomplish your movie-watching goals!

Rainbow Movie Challenge

My first tip is less of a tip. More of a challenge, which is super fun, and perfect for movie marathons and perfect for moving marathons. First, pick six (or seven, depending on your definition of a rainbow) movies with a cover that is mostly one of the rainbow colors, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple ( and pink), then watch them in order  This challenge is really good for getting out of your comfort zone, especially since some colors barely have any movies containing them. For example, you could do “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” for Red, “The Lorax” for Orange, “Be Kind Rewind” (underrated movie alert) for Yellow, “Arthur and the Invisiblesfor Green, “Avatar” for Blue,  “La La Land” for Purple (and “Sleepover” for Pink). Plus, if you use Letterboxd, that rainbow in your diary will look really cool.

Watch Movies you forgot you even wanted to watch

Remember the days you used to scroll through streaming services when you were younger, trying to figure out what to watch, and if you’re anything like me, you. You probably saw some gems. That seemed super interesting, but you weren’t able to watch because you’re too little. Well, now here’s the time to make tiny you’s dreams come true and put on those movies. For this Tip, go to the streaming service. You used to always use like Prime Video. Netflix, Tubi, or even PopCornflix, and look for those familiar titles that piqued your interest, and watch them. This hack is really fulfilling because you’re accomplishing something you didn’t even know you needed to.

Movie Wheel!

For this tip, find or make a list of movies, which could be from your already established watchlist or a random one on the internet, then make a wheel on a website like https://wheelofnames.com/ then spin it and watch WHATEVER comes up it might be a movie that don 100% want to watch ad you’ll ay to yourself “no ones forcing me too i’ll just spin again. Well, now I am officially forcing you to watch that movie, or you’ll just keep spinning forever and never pick your movie. You might not want to watch it, but it could end up being your next favorite.

Scroll and pick a movie

It might sound a bit basic, but it’s fun! Scroll on any streaming platform (or cable if you have it) and watch whatever movie you land on, and don’t read the description (just maybe the rating) and watch it. This could lead to a new fav or a fun and odd movie to explain to your friends.

Finally check some stuff off your watchlist!

I have maybe 100+ movies on my watchlist, and you might too, so for my final (and maybe a little lazy tip), just watch what you have on your watchlist!!
